Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of Cuban bread or substitute with French bread
  • 1 pound of roast pork sliced thin
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of cheese
  • 3-4 dill pickles sliced
  • 2 tablespoon yellow mustard

Equipment

  • A large skillet or grill pan
  • A sandwich press or heavy pan (to press the sandwich)
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Spatula or tongs
  • Butter knife or spoon to spread mustard

Method

  1. Cut the Cuban bread in half lengthwise and spread mustard on both sides.
    1 loaf of Cuban bread
  2. Layer the roast pork, ham, cheese and pickles on one half of the bread.
1 pound of roast pork, 4 slices of ham, 4 slices of cheese, 3-4 dill pickles, 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  3. Place the other half of the bread on top and press down gently.
  4. Heat a large skillet or panini press over medium heat.
  5. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook until the bread is crispy, and the cheese is melted, about 3 minutes per side.
  6. Cut the sandwich into smaller pieces and serve hot.

Notes

  • No sandwich press? No problem! Use a heavy skillet or cast iron pan to press the sandwich while it cooks—just be sure to press firmly for that crispy, golden crust.
  • Warm the pork before assembling if it’s been in the fridge—this helps everything heat evenly and melt together faster.
  • Leftover pork roast works perfectly! This is a great way to use up Sunday dinner or meal-prepped pork without starting from scratch.
  • Make it kid-friendly by using just ham and cheese if your little ones aren’t fans of pickles or mustard.
  • Don’t skip the mustard! Even if you're not usually a mustard fan, it adds a tangy pop that brings all the flavors together.
