Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g elbow macaroni uncooked
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup whole milk or evaporated milk for a creamier version
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese mild or medium — not orange
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Equipment

  • Instant Pot (6- or 8-quart)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Grater
  • Serving spoon or ladle
  • Tongs
  • Small whisk

Method

  1. Add macaroni, water, salt, and butter to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
  2. Close the lid and set the valve to Sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 4 minutes.
  3. Quick release the pressure immediately when the cooking cycle ends.
  4. Stir well — the pasta may look watery at first but will begin to thicken as you stir.
  5. Pour in the milk and stir in the shredded cheese. Stir until smooth, creamy, and fully melted.
  6. Let sit for 2–3 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken further.
